Classroom Management

Classroom Management is the first step in running a successful classroom.  In order for students to respond to the instruction, they must feel safe and supported.  I believe in using positive behavior systems and recognizing students for the great work they are doing daily in the classroom.  Below are links to some techniques I have used to promote a positive classroom environment.

A classroom wide positive behavior management system is important for the cohesiveness and the functioning of the classroom.  Within this link you will find examples of classroom wide systems I have used as well as individual systems I have created and used with students.

It is important to create a classroom mission statement or a culture statement within the first few days of the school year.  All students must be involved in order for them to feel valued and a respected member of the classroom environment.

Whale Done is a positive behavior support program I was introduced to by the teachers at Propel Homestead.  I was impressed by the positive recognition of the students and the impact it had on their social and academic lives at school.

Morning Meetings are a great way for students to feel like a valued member of the classroom community.  It provides structured opportunities for students to talk about their own lives and learn more about their classmates.  It is also a great way to include social skills instruction based upon the classroom needs.
