Kindergarten Camp
Site Director
Under the direct supervision of the Propel Kindergarten Camp Supervisor, I was selected to be the Camp Site Director of the Pitcairn site for the 2014, 2015, and 2016 summers. My responsibilities are to maintain a staff of one - two support teachers that also work with the students. I ensure that all lesson plans are completed, all skills are being met, and the students are making appropriate progress. As the primary special education teacher, this also provides me with the opportunity to work with any incoming Early Intervention Students.

During kindergarten screenings all incoming kindergartners are screened for their early literacy skills, math skills, speech and language abilities, and general cognitive abilities. After the screenings, I work closely with the Kindergarten Camp Supervisor and the lead school psychologist to select 7-10 incoming kindergarten students who would benefit from a month of support before the kindergarten year, typicall these students have no preschool experience or are already identified as "Early Intervention".

At Kindergarten Camp, the students are exposed to the early literacy skills and math skills as well as work on appropriate social skills, classroom routines, and learning experiences
through play! The students attend every weekday during the month of July from 8:30 - 2:30.

This provides students with the skills necessary to start the kindergarten year off right!
